About "Anticipation"
"Anticipation" is the largest graphite piece that I have done so far. It was purposely done large because I felt the composition warranted the size. Turkey Vultures; although some may not think are very pretty, they are a magnificence bird of prey and their sheer size merits a large composition.
This piece is also designed to actually hang from a ceiling so that the viewer must "look up into the sky" to view the artwork. Usually these birds are observed slowly circling effortlessly on the thermals high above the ground. Of the two vultures the one in the foreground is looking directly at the viewer in anticipation and thus the title of the piece. The vulture in the background is flying into the white space that was also purposely left to give the piece some overall motion, to add to the sensation that you are watching these two soaring high above.
The detail is not as critical in this piece as it is meant to be viewed from below. To view the creation of this piece please go my Work in Progress section.
