About this portrait - The Philippine Eagle
I subscribe to National Geographic and when I read a recent article on this magnificent bird, I knew I had to draw one. I started the portrait and tried to portray the intelligence and stature of the bird. The eagles eyes are bluish-grey and are very intense - I usually work on the eyes last and take extra time to ensure that they are life-like. As soon as the piece was done I contacted the Philippine Eagle Foundation ( PEF ) and started to discuss the possibilities of my art helping the PEF with their goals of conservation. On April 1, 2008 a formal agreement was signed between Mr. Dennis J.I. Salvador , Executive Director of the PEF.
About the Philippine Eagle
The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) is a giant forest raptor endemic to the Philippines. It is considered one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one of the world's rarest and certainly among its most critical endangered vertebrate species. The eagle is known to be geographically restricted to the islands of Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao.
