Grizzly - King of the Woods

This is a new Artistic Cartography piece that was done as part of the Artist in Residency program that I took part in back in July 2022 in Canada's Glacier National Park. Twelve artists stayed onsite at Rogers Pass and explored the Park for a week developing material for the creation of artwork. Each artist had to produce a minimum of 3 pieces for the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre.

This particular piece is a graphite only portrait of a grizzly bear. Although I didn't see any on this particular trip, they are very abundant throughout the park.

Rogers Pass is a very historic location and the creation of the transcontinental railway was constructed through the region in the late 1880's. The map that this grizzly is completed on was created in 1891 and was last written upon in 1893. 

The original will be exhibited through the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre and will also travel to various exhibits throughout western Canada. The original is for sale at $1500.00 Canadian with 20% commission going to the RVAC.
